Three Important Tips for Maintaining Your Residential Glass Tinting

Construction & Contractors Blog

If you have noticed an uncomfortable glare from sunlight through your residential windows, think about investing in glass tinting. The tinting film will not only reduce optical discomfort in your interior space, but the protection will also minimise ultraviolet radiation, reducing its harmful effects such as skin damage and furniture bleaching. Additionally, you will enjoy lower heat penetration into your home, and this could result in lower cooling costs. However, keep in mind that poor care for the films will lead to fast deterioration and a need for replacement. Here are simple tips for maintaining your glass tinting in the best possible condition.

Avoid Immediate Washing Tinting films need time to bond with the glass for long-term performance. Therefore, when you apply the product to your windows, allow time for the material to settle before wiping or washing. You should note that improper application of the film can make the tinting vulnerable to moisture, even after curing. For example, if the edges are open or exposed, they will allow water to flow behind the layer. Consequently, the risk of peeling will be higher. Where possible, choose a professional contractor for help with your tinting project.

Choose Gentle Cleaners The right cleaning agents are essential when using a tinting product on your windows. Modern films are resilient and durable, but their performance is compromised by harsh chemicals. Therefore, check the ingredients incorporated into your household cleaners before using them on your windows. For example, avoid exposing your film to ammonia because its caustic nature might react with the composition of the tinting product. Also, do not use abrasive solutions such as cleaners with baking soda. Usually, a simple detergent like dish soap with water is sufficient for cleaning your tinted glass. If you need a different agent, prepare a solution using vinegar.

Minimise Glass Scratching The surface of your tinting film will be vulnerable to scratches. The damage to the material will not only interfere with the aesthetics of your windows. It will also increase the peeling rate, necessitating the replacement of the product. Therefore, protect the glass tinting, especially when cleaning. If you want to wipe down dust, use a microfiber cloth. This material will clear dust and stains without leaving damage or traces. When washing with plenty of water, acquire a squeegee. This rubber tool will eliminate stains and moisture while protecting the film. Avoid scrubbing the film using anything abrasive, including stiff plastic sponges. Finally, if you discover delamination in your residential glass tinting, consult your contractor for inspection and replacement.
